In ASTM Standard a lot of terms are used. To ensure that the same term is used within the different standards and means the same, a Standard (E1316) was created for the Terminology for NDT Examinations.

Most of the E07 standards refer to E1316; sometimes there are further terms used specific to the indívidual standard but as soon as the term is also used somewhere else the committee tries to harmonize the terms and bring der definition to E1316.
